M310Data-Center/Enterprise OTDR

With Built in Optical Power Meter (OPM) and Built in
Visual Fault Locator (VFL) the AFL Test
& Inspection M310 OTDR is designed to address the technical
challenges associate with today’s Data Center architectures and
network speeds.Inherent in today’s Top of Rack (TOR) or End of Rack
(EOR) data center configurations are ultra-short fiber links, more
numerous patch panels and cross-connections. At the same time
bandwidth demands is accelerating the deployment of 40 and 100G
Ethernet. Network uptime is critical in Data Center networks, being
able to pinpoint faults to an end of a jumper cable and get the
network back on line is crucial. The M310combines ease of use (Touch and
Test)with industry leading specificationsin a field
rugged, hand-held package.Integrated OTDR, OPM and VFL
functionalitywith inspection capabilitysimplifies
setup, testing or troubleshooting and reduces network outage
time. With dead- zones less than 1 m and dynamic ranges of
up to38 dB the M310 is ideal for testing, troubleshooting and
documenting Data Center, Enterprise, SAN/LAN/WAN, co-location,
campus, Department of Transportationand military single-mode
and multimode (62.5 and 50 micron)fiber networks.

M310 Multifunction OTDR Features and Benefits:

Industry leading dead zones to
helpvalidate and troubleshoot typical Data Center and
Enterprise networks comprised of multiple connections and short
jumpers.

Event Dead Zones 0.8m

Attenuation Dead-zones < 3 m

Enhanced Mode Fill (EMF)- Enables users
to get more accurate loss results, comparable to measurements made
with expensive external mode conditioners without sacrificing
dynamic range or adding another box to manage during testing

Built in Optical Power Meter -Test
and store both Tier 1 and Tier 2 results in one tester

Built in Visual FaultLocator (VFL)
-enables technicians to quickly identify fiber
faults within OTDR dead zone and verify polarity

Front End and First Connector checks-
verify launch quality to help users obtain better OTDR trace
results

Live Fibre Detection and Indication -
direct users to validate they are on the correct fiber or turn off
the source so they can obtain an OTDR trace

Dynamic Range suited testing fibers
beyondthe Data Center

38 dB Single-mode

30 dB Multimode

Inspection ready – the M310 supports
theDFS Digital FiberScope for inspecting the finish and
cleanliness of connector end-faces, whichis a
leadingcause of network failures

Fast Real Time OTDR mode for use in
troubleshooting or splicing applications

Field proven, compact, rugged product packaging is designed for
bothoutside plant use and cramped inside plant
environments.

M310 Touch and Test supports users of all
levels

Full Auto
Mode-Connect and press
test.M310 will detect fiber and set recommended test
parameters.Perfect for novice technicians or repair techs
quickly looking for faults on fiber spans of unknown
length.Auto-Once Mode-
Designed for testing cables with multiple fibers.M310
performs a full auto test on the first fiber and retains
recommended settings allowing fast expert-speed testing of
subsequent fibers.Expert Mode -
Provides access to testing parameters for experienced users
to setup optimal testing scenarios for specific
networks.Real-Time Mode -
Fast continuous OTDR operation and display update allows
users to dynamically change networks while monitoring OTDR trace
results.Example: relaxing fiber bends to reduce attenuation
loss.

M310 Touch and Test Features

Top menu level touch screen access to major test modes allow
users to test networks faster- no time wasted with complicated menu
structures. The M310 provides one-touch access to OTDR
andOPMtest modes and DFS inspection mode when
enabled.

SetPass/Fail thresholds compliant
with TIA/ISO/user-defined values to alert test operators of failing
or marginal events.

New Job creation editor with detailed
job/file naming allows users to quickly createfile for
storing results with flexibility for custom Job, Route, Cable,
Fiber file naming.

Structured file management to logically and easily store test
results.

Results Manager allows
in-unitreview saved test resultsand quick selection of
previously created jobs for storing current job test results.

Access general settings including Date/Time/Number format
options and an Auto Off feature.

OTDR settingsenhanced event measurements with various
manual LSA methods available in Expert mode.

Asimple toggle function enables fast and logical storage
of trace, Loss andinspectionresults from both ends of a
fiber/cable.

The M310 supports visual inspection per IEC
61300-3-5visual inspection practices using an AFL DFS1
Digital FiberScope providing the user the ability to view and
document connector end-face images with their OTDR traces
andloss/power measurements
Touch and Test capabilities simplify the user experience; reduce
training time and testing errors enabling even novices to get the
job done quickly and accurately.

Data Storage and Reporting Capabilities
(TRMTM)

Thousands oftest results may be stored internally or on
the supplied USB drive. Test results are transferable via USB cable
or USB drive to a computer for viewing, printing, and analyzing
with the supplied Windows compatible software – TRM 2.0 Basic
Analysis and Documentation Software (Test Results Manager).
Acceptance reports generated using TRM 2.0 can include OTDR traces
with summary and event information with or without pass/fail
indication, Event Maps, Loss/Power measurement tables and end-face
images.

TRM2.0.

Advanced Analysis Software

The Advanced Analysis software features macro/microbend
detection and bi-directional trace analysis and is available for
the M310 and in TRM 2.0 Advanced Analysis PC software.
Macro/Microbend detection helps technicians identify installation
problems. Excessive bends or stress on fibers will show up as
excessive attenuation at higher wavelengths. These bends or
stresses are indicated on the Event Table with a special icon.
Bi-directional trace analysis, used to resolve errors due to
mis-matched single-mode fibers, measures the loss of events in the
End 1 to End 2 and End 2 to End 1 directions, then calculates a
two-way average of the OTDR’s loss measurements, which is the true
loss of the event. (see M310 and TRM specification sheets or below

Ordering Information

The M310 is offered in three optical models: multimode,
single-mode and combined as a QUAD multimode/single-mode.(See
data sheet for ordering information). The M310Data
CenerOTDR is available in a softcase with carry handle and
shoulder strap or in a compact rugged transit case and as part of
aCertification kit or a Test and Inspection kit. Both soft
and hard cases haveroom to carry the M310, power cord, fiber
rings, and adapters, cleaning supplies, other accessories and
documentation. The hard case has a full length hinge, pad lock
loops, secure snap latches and O-ring seal to protect the contents
from dust and water.M310 Certification
Kits are designed for
integrated Tier1 and Tier2 testing with fiber end-face image
capture. The M310 stores OTDR traces, loss readings and end-face
images for each fiberin a logical Job Structure. Review
results on the M310 and transfer to a PC for analysis and
acceptance report documentation using included companion Test
Results Manager (TRM) 2.0 software. In TRM apply standards and
applications to loss readings to assure fibers meet the increasing
bandwidth needs of fiber networks such as 10 GbE. These kits
include a M310, an Optical Light Source, Digital FiberScope and
cleaning accessories in a compact rugged hard transit case. Select
the kit below to meet your single-mode, multimode or QUAD testing
